Pottery Classes & Fees
How do the classes work?
Our pottery classes work on a club-based rolling monthly membership model.
This membership renews automatically every month, until otherwise indicated.
If members don't wish to renew they will need to inform us clearly by the 3rd week of the month at the latest in order for us to advertise the upcoming open space to people on our waiting list.
Class duration is 2.5 hours and this includes everything: all clay, glazes, the use of studio tools and equipment, storing of pieces, and firing of all work (with some exceptions depending on size).
Our classes are freestyle "open sessions" and we encourage everyone to create in any type of pottery method they are interested in - there is no specific or set "course". We will provide you with the know-how and guidance to create whatever you wish, but we can also leave you to do your own thing.
Our studio has facilities for all types of hand building, as well as two pottery wheels that can be used at any time.
How much does it cost?
The monthly membership fee is £100 per month, per person, for 4 class sessions once a week on your chosen day and time.
If a month has 5 weeks, the fee is adjusted to £125 for that month, or members can choose to take a one week break.
Members can join mid-month (if there's availability) and pay a pro-rated fee for the number of sessions left in that month, e.g. 3 sessions - £75, 2 sessions - £50, 1 session - £30.
We require a £30 booking fee in order to confirm and secure your space in our classes. This fee is non-refundable and will form part of your monthly booking fee. The remainder of the monthly booking fee must be paid in full by the end of the first lesson.
Payment can be completed using our card facility in the studio, or using a bank payment link sent via WhatsApp or email; please don't bring cash to the studio.
Will I be able to join?
YES!
We welcome all levels of potters, from brand new beginners to those who already have some (or lots of) experience.
Our class sizes are kept small to ensure we give the best guidance and value to our students, and for this reason we do give space preference to monthly bookings/recurring students and single sessions will be dependent on whether we have space available.
What's included in the Class fee?
As part of your class fee the studio will provide you with:
all-purpose white earthenware clay,
a variety of studio tools and materials for hand-building, sculpting, and wheel work,
a standard palette of glazes/underglazes, suitable for mixing and layering, *
pottery wheels, and other equipment,
kiln firing of all work **
There are literally thousands of glazes and hundreds of types of clay on the market and it is impossible to cater to everyone’s taste and preferences for colours and finishes. That is why we have decided on a standardised range of products as part of the class fee.
If there is something that you would like to use please ask your tutor before using it at the studio to see if it is possible with the facilities we provide, and how to arrange an order and payment.
* Any additional or specialised glazes or materials which are not provided by the studio will be for your own account, but TCS will be able to assist with the ordering process if requested. Payment for such orders will be strictly in advance.
** if any pieces of work occupies more than 50% of the kiln space there may be an additional £15 charge for firing it. We will fire a single piece no more than 2 times. We don't fire any work that has not been made in our studio.
