To help make pottery more accessible in the central Fife area we have made our kiln available for hire to fire pottery items created in home or hobby spaces.
Max Temp: 1220°C
Internal firing capacity: 52cm(d) x 65cm (h).
Shelves: 3 X full circular shelves with a 52cm diameter.
All firing requests should be submitted by filling out the BOOKING FORM. Please fill out a separate form for each different type of firing.
All users must read and agree with the full kiln hire Terms & Conditions before booking or firing.
PAYMENT INCLUDES:
- Assessment of all pieces,
- Technician time for loading, programming the kiln, and unloading work,
- Storage up to 1 week.
Payment should be made once your booking is confirmed, and before your item/s are dropped off.
Once your booking is confirmed details of the clay and glazes that you are using must be emailed in advance of the firing. Please include photos of labels, and links to the materials you are using where possible.
There may be times when the kiln is unavailable due to my own work/studio deadlines; I’ll do my best to give advance warning when it won’t be available.
If not booking a full kiln load there may be delays until we have a full kiln load. If your firing needs are urgent please book a full kiln load.
Faults in ceramic objects’ structures and glazes may result in breakages, cracking, or other faults that may only become visible once firing is completed. I will not be held liable for any damages, cracking, unexpected results, or faults of this nature.
I will always strive to handle your work with care and respect, but accidents can and do happen. If an item is damaged due to an accident I will offer a discount on the cost of your firing service, but will not be held liable for any damages of this nature.
All work is left at your own risk.
All greenware will be assessed and will not be fired until I am satisfied that it is fully dried.
All glazed work must have clean bottoms with a 1cm clearance between any glaze and the kiln shelf, or else be provided with firing stilts, or adequate batt-washed lipped glaze catchers or rimmed drip trays that sit fully under your work.
I reserve the right to not fire any work that I deem unsafe or risky (e.g. too thick/inadequate ventilation, combustible inclusions, poorly glazed work).
Please note that I will not fire wild clay.
Work must be collected promptly after the work is unloaded, I sadly don’t have the space to store work for long periods of time. I’ll email or message when it’s ready and arrange a collection time. Please do not miss this slot.
Similarly I don’t have space to store packaging for work. Remember to bring back your packaging to collect.
Any damage to the kiln or kiln furniture due to poorly made or glazed pieces will be recorded and charged to you to be repaired or replaced from our suppliers.
This price will vary depending on the damage incurred, but prices for kiln furniture are detailed below:
Price per replacement kiln shelf = £80
Price per replacement shelf prop = £8
Minor shelf damage (i.e. small glaze runs that can be scraped off) = £10
Moderate shelf damage (i.e. glaze or clay that melts which needs chiseled off and shelf repairs) = £25
We ask that you keep in mind, and be respectful of the fact, that a kiln is a specialised and expensive piece of equipment, and should be used with care.
