Hi, I'm Helene, and I'm an interdisciplinary artist with a focus on ceramics and mixed media for over 30 years.
I started doing ceramics when I was a teenager and my mum was attending pottery classes on Saturdays. Back then most studios didn't allow people under the age of 18 to join classes, so my mum would show me everything she had learned after each of her classes. I started making coil pots, slabbed lamp shades and sculptures based on everything she taught me.
As an adult I felt the draw to develop my skills further, so I apprenticed with several prominent ceramic artists in the different cities that I lived in and studied wheel work, sculpture, and other ceramic techniques and studio processes.
I moved on and applied my skills teaching art and design in schools across the world, and volunteered in a number of outreach projects aiming to uplift and support vulnerable groups and charitable organisations. After moving to Scotland, and settling in with my husband, our 2 dogs and 3 cats, I became a Pottery Tutor with Community Use for Fife Council.
Establishing Triya Ceramic Studio is the delightful culmination of my dream to make pottery easily accessible to a wide audience of budding creatives, and help people realise their clay-potential!
